South Africans like most people love a bit of wine, but usually afterwards the bottles just go to waste. Here are a couple of very interesting little “life hacks” you can use to give them a new lease on life.
Give credit to those rednecks. They really know how to make a plan. We go around and buy the appropriate parts or get things fixed using the right tools or a handyman. Why? These are all perfect examples of their ingenuity!

DIY projects that I love best are the ones that cost nothing or almost nothing. There are so many things that is probably lying around the house, up in an attic or in a shed that can be re-purposed brilliantly in your home.
Have a look at some of these ingenious ways people created nightstands and the start digging through your old stuff…
One of the big reasons why people don’t like making breakfast is because it eats into their previous morning time before work. If you barely have time to get ready for work, you often don’t have enough time to put together a healthy breakfast.
So let’s make things a little easier and do all the work in the evening. Here are two very easy ways to cut down the time you would need in the mornings.
Healthy oats in a jar
This is definitely one of the easiest things you can make. You don’t even need to cook the oats for this. The basis of the “Oats in a jar” is oats and some milk (or water if you prefer it).
One of the nicest ones you can do is to add about half a cup of oats and a cup of milk to a nearly empty peanut butter jar. If you don’t have a peanut butter jar, any other jar would work.
You can then add frozen berries, banana, protein powder, flax seed and cinnamon to taste. Give it a stir so that everything is mixed and put in the fridge.
Tomorrow when you get up, it will be good to go!
Pre-packed smoothie ingredients
Smoothies are one of the rockstars of the breakfast world. If you prepare only one portion daily from scratch it takes some time.
We therefore suggest that you get 5 zip-lock bags and make enough pre-packed smoothie ingredients for a working week. In a smoothie you are ideally looking to have protein, vitamins, minerals and fiber in abundance.
You can therefore combine the following ingredients in different combinations every day to keep things interesting:
Kale, berries, cinnamon, banana, orange, flax seeds, whey protein, spinach, almonds, oats, peanut butter, chia seeds and apple.
After you have made your five different smoothie packs you pop them in the fridge for the week ahead.
You should also buy a tub or two of greek yoghurt to mix it up with every week. You can then swap this with milk every other day.
Claiming I am a good handyman would not be a half-truth, but a full lie. I do get by however and there have been a few successful projects that haven’t resulted in mutilating injuries to myself. All of them have however been for a reason.
There are however projects that people undertake for absolutely no apparent reason. Below we detail 19 of the most useless DIY projects that people have undertaken. The efforts of these individuals put into their projects just leaves with a bit of a “DI-Why?”
The exact way you should build a chair that you only want to use once.
Oh you’re so clever. You did an amazing job of ruining a perfectly good book and turning it into a ridiculous pot plant thing
Step 1: Collect 1 558 little thingies from the top of soda cans. Step 2: Mangle your fingers in an attempt to create this handbag. Step 3: Go on a walk about and never come back. You should not breed.
Due to the extreme nature of ugliness involved in these denim slippers, we can’t show any more. We are very proud of you for using the pockets that use to keep your butt warm to now keep your feet warm, but please stop being creative. You are hurting
Yes. That is a much better use for a beautiful tub. Ruin it and make a stupid couch of it.
Reclaiming wood: good on you. Your precious little angel looking like a porcupine from all of the splinters: not so good on you

Respect for the next-level origami skills. It is also as practical as a soccer balls filled with lead
Life Hacks really start adding value when it involves things I have in my home and it actually applies to things I need help with.
Too often there are amazing hacks that really helps you with absolutely nothing except if you were perhaps a polar bear… stuck in a tree… trying to train a cat… to dance on a tightrope. That would be really cool to, but you wouldn’t really find yourself in situations where that becomes necessary too often.
Let me introduce our here: The Rubber Band.
Everyone has a few lying around the office or at home and they have a number of uses apart from the obvious: shooting them at your kids.
The video below shows you how to remove tough lids, prevent spoons from falling into bowls and keep your glasses on your face… Well just watch the video already and find out for yourself.
The idea with hacks is that it is supposed to make your life a lot easier. Breakfast should be a quick and easy meal.
So over the next few weeks we will be bringing you a couple of breakfast hacks every week to help you save time in the mornings.
Eggs in the Microwave
This is one I have been doing for some time. With so many people trying to get in more protein and less carbs these days they often want an option for quick and easy protein. This one is both cheap and easy to do and you don’t need to wash any pans.
You can either make it for breakfast or take the raw eggs to work and make it in a microwave oven there.
What you’ll need:
Yep. That’s it.
How to prepare them:
Crack the two eggs into a microwaveable bowl
Put in the microwave on high for 2 minutes
After one minute, open the microwave and stir it a bit
After two minutes, open the microwave and eat it
If you want to add a bit of flavor to it you can add a little cheese or pieces of tomato or ham in after 1 minute.
Bacon in the oven
Why bacon? Because bacon of course.
This is a fairly easy, healthy and relatively quick one. The ingredients you’ll need are shown below, however the foil is an optional extra. It does however help in making the clean up afterwards a bit less painful.
As you put it all together, you should end up with it looking like this:
How to prepare them:
After the bacon has been laid out, put them in a cold oven and then turn it up to 200 degrees Celsius / 400 degrees Fahrenheit
You can then start checking it from around 15 minutes
After 15 minutes they will be cooked and by 25 minutes they will be crispy, so cook’em as you like’em
These are just the first two that we will be sharing now with more coming every week. The idea is to make sure that you steadily build up a couple of options for breakfast that normal people can make and actually afford.
A cold glass of Coke on a warm day is one of the best things you can have to quench a thirst. Over the years people have however found a number of very interesting uses for Coke.
After you have read this you might start thinking that it is something that every handyman should keep ready with his stash of duct-tape and Q20.
Fact #1: Insect Repellent
Put some Coke in a bowl about an hour before your outdoor party and place it away from where you and your guests will be. Any unwanted insects and bugs will be too busy drinking the sweet and acidic soda to bother you and your guests.

Burnt on food can ruin a good pan if you can’t get it off. To save your good cookware, pour some Coke in the pan and let it soak overnight. The next morning, all that burnt food should come right off.

Fact #8: Fixes Bad Dye Jobs
If you ever find yourself with a horrible dye job, soak your hair in Diet Coke and remove any permanent hair dye with ease.
Fact #9: Removes Gum
Soak the gum and the hair in Coke for 15 minutes and then the gum will wipe out easily.

All you have to do is pour the coke on the stains, let it soak and then rinse it all off, including the oil stains with some water.

Every time you get a new phone you spend hours on it trying to figure out as much as you can. Personally I always feel that I am missing half of what these wonderful little devices can do… and I am right more often than not.
